Project Who 50: #70 Commander Jingo Linx

Another in the Project Who-50 series of portraits, counting down to the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who - from "The Time Warrior".

I believe that real fans know that Linx's first name is Jingo. I believe that real fans take this one fact and refuse to accept any other point of view. Never mind UNIT dating, never mind the half-human dilemma...Jingo is the deciding factor about true fans. You know it to be true...:)

The Awakening was next. Second in line as conflicting story. Honestly, I definitely did not like the first episode, but I did the second. The first one I kept thinking, am I really expected to believe an entire town went along with this? And then Tegan plays the role of damsel in distress. Again. All that manhandling Tegan had to put up with was far more irritating to watch than any other story of hers, whether or not you call it historical accuracy. Now that I think about it, it’s probably another reason why I never cared for that time period (which I keep calling medieval but I think that’s wrong). That and it’s always the go-to derivative culture of classic Who, isn’t it?

But the second one was better. I got an explanation, and when the crack in the wall (haha series 5) broke down a little I really jumped! First time in classic. That head was pretty creepy. Maybe a little cheesy, but definitely effective and disturbing. I was pretty impressed by it actually. As was that creepy lizard in the TARDIS. Especially when it dripped goo. I thought to myself, “Oh, whose going to clean that up?”

However, the character of Will was pretty useless. Turlough got sidelined in place of him, and Will wasn’t really important to the plot at all. Like a temporary blank Jamie cutout. Also, the whole explanation of a crashed probe from Raga that used its psychic energy to wreak havoc on earth is just a little...silly. Especially since we don’t even know why it kicked a crack in time into 1984 besides “massive psychic energy”. Why??? Either way, it was interesting in a weird sort of way.
