Project Who 50: #185 Scarecrow

Another in the Project Who-50 series of portraits, counting down to the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who.

So this is a scarecrow from "The Family Of Blood". Now, frankly, I was not terribly impressed with what I did here, but I showed it to an outsider who said she thought it was good, so I've gone with her opinion. Eeep!

Another episode dump. Daleks in Manhattan-Evolution of the Daleks: I have to say, fake pig-aliens ? Never stops being cheesy. These Daleks dont talk like Daleks, in what they say and the intonation in which they say it. How are these Americans not making note of the British accents?

"Request information: what is your opinion of Dalek Sec?"
All that scene needed was a water cooler.

More questionable lightning-science like the Idiot's Lantern. I didn't care for the theatre scene near the end. The dialogue... Yeah, this story was...nice. Not terrible like they say, but I can't say it was good. Just ok.

Lazarus Experiment. Let's not question the science of this one either. But good CGI.
And what is with bad guys and good guys accusing each other of arrogance? I also caught that reverse the polarity reference! In the church, before he changed, Lazarus gave me a 5th Doctor vibe. Young, blonde, vulnerable... that and the only way I describe people now is by which Doctor they resemble most. :P

Then I watched 42. Martha really loses it in that escape pod and compared to everything else she'd gone through, it made me want to tell her to a grip. But great acting by Tennant and the arc is starting to come together.

And of course next was Human Nature-Family of Blood. Something I didn't notice before is that little girl with the balloon at the beginning: that seems exactly like the girl from Remembrance of the Daleks, right down to the music. There's also a Metebelis crystal on John Smith's desk by the pocketwatch. And a cricketball like the 5th Doctor is used in the piano scene. And references to Sydney and Verity: this story is full of classic references! Martha takes a lot of crap but she's so kickass. And Son of Mine is a great villain with a creepy face.

This is a fantastic story as ever. Better than most of Moffat's stories pre-series 5 I honestly say. It had such emotion, and Tennant again, has fantastic acting. Too bad that the famous fire and ice quote didn't give me shivers like the first time I saw this story. Since then, I've seen fans quote-video-link it so many times it's lost it's impact. Well that's exactly what the next story is going to be...

I could probably quote along with the entire episode of Blink. So I didn't really pay careful attention this time round. Just the three part finale to go...
